The battery on my 2008 ML550 (about 3,800 miles) goes dead if I don't drive the vehicle for 1 day. (Day 1 drive, day 2 sits, day 3 battery dead) It starts right up with a jump. I was wondering if anybody else has had a similar problem?
Do not jump. Get it towed back to the dealer or get the battery replaced before starting up the car (or charged the battery up first). Otherwise, your car's charging system and electrical system could be forced to operate outside its designed operating range. Risky business (damaging/costly). Unless it is a dire emergency or you have a cheap junker, jumping the battery is usually not a good idea.
Has anybody had to replace a battery yet? If I remember correctly it is quite a chore to remove it. That includes cutting the carpet under and behind the right front seat. That has to look like butt when the job is done. Seems they could have made, or finished the carpet, so it would look better. Maybe it isn't noticeable and somebody can fill us in on the job.
The only time my battery ever went dead was because i had left the light switch set to the wrong setting. if all your lights do go out in the specified time then its a warranty issue

How long should I expect the battery to last in the ML, when used as a daily driver for the most part?
I don't about M-B batteries, but generally my experience has been 4 to 6 years although some fail within the first year. Temperature changes can affect the life span but some just plain fail within the first year. On the other hand I just replaced the original Motorcraft battery in my '99 F150 because the green "eye" turned red. It still holds a charge and I'm keeping it as a spare.

My interior and exterior lights settings are in delayed off and my headlamps are set to "AUTO". I know, these eat up battery charge. Did you have the same settings? Wonder if mine will last between 4 to 6 years...
there is no life expenctancy on a battery. some batteries last several years, some last 5 days.
now about the carpet cutting, all that it being cut is about 3 inches on each side so to be able to lift up the carpet. you will never see or know it was done.

My 08 CDI has turned up dead twice for no apparant reason. Nothing was left on. Called MB both times to come out and start it, once in FL and once at home in TN. Both times it was jumped from another battery using terminals under the hood for that purpose. After the second time, the service mngr talked to the rep who said there is some problem wherein something doesn't shut down as it should and there would be a fix later. In the meantime the rep said to always lock the car which would shut down all the systems. I haven't had a problem since, but no word on the "fix". Mine is always garaged, so I normally would not lock it.
