Post Ask a Mercedes-Benz Salesman Thread

Hi all,

In an effort to serve the Mercedes-Benz community, fire away, I'll do my best to answer any questions you may have. I work for a Penske-owned Mercedes-Benz dealership (publicly held) in a top five automobile market, Phoenix, AZ.

Question you may have been afraid to ask your salesperson? General question about an ML? Post it here.

Great!
1. What does MB consider an "acceptable level " of oil consumption for an ML CDI over the 10,000 mile oil change period?
2. Does the CDI engine benefit from "Italian tune ups" like the older diesel engines do ?
3 Are the replacement crank shaft sensors - changed under a recall notice- improved versions, or the same exact model that has been failing ?
4. What has been the most significant problem that MB has had with the 164- either gas or diesel?
5. When will MB bring a 4 cyl CDI to USA and in what bodies ?

Hi zak, since I'm not a mechanic, your best bet would be to call your service advisor on this one. As for the 4cly diesels in the US, I hope/suspect they will be here in the C class 2010, possibly even the remarkable B class as well. In the meantime, go for a Rabbit TDI, or the upcoming '09 Golf TDI hybrid if it comes out. Fred's TDI Page. TDIClub.com. VW TDI Enthusiast Community for more

Also expect to see the 4 cylinder diesel in the GLK, as announced at the New York autoshow and found on the MBUSA website. It should be quite a car.

After checking with my service advisor, he said they are seeing the catalytic converters get sooty when drivers drive their diesels with socks. He recommends one good freeway blast down an on-ramp a week.

As for the crank shaft sensors, they are a new part.

If you don't mind me asking, do MBz salesmen earn more (salary/commissions) vs. other salesmen in other car dealerships? Here in our area, the only dealership where almost all salesmen are wearing suits is MBz. So, I guess, they have to pay you more to buy suits and have them dry cleaned regularly.

Do you work for Phoenix Motor Company? If so, I bet I know who you are (and I bet you sold me my used 2007 P3 ML320CDI)

I'm just guessing as my salesman was very internet savvy.

VW pays $100 per car, we get $250, at least. I love the customer base at Mercedes-Benz. Smartest people on Earth, great conversation. Often I spend more time talking about life than about the vehicle. We never have to sit on any one and convince them to buy one, like say a Ford salesman is forced to do.

Yep, all these "Ask a Salesman" threads should be moved to at least the General MB section or OT. I see more questions than useful answers here.
