Benzblogger.com claims that there is going to be a RWD ML350 early next year. Is this just speculation, or has MBUSA confirmed it?

Do you ever sell cars for (re)export to Europe these days? I know Europeans have been getting cars shipped from the US due to the price difference. Any idea how much must be done to make the car meet EU standards?

Nope, against our dealer contract. We get fined big-time. It's rampant in CA, so now we have non-export agreements customers must sign before they take delivery.

I am trying to choose between a slightly optioned ML 550 or a fully loaded ML 320 Bluetec. I am 95% of the way deciding on the Bluetec but there is a variable that is bugging me: Towing. The 2008 320 CDI can tow 7,200 lb but the 2009 has been de-rated to 5,000 lb. What gets me is that the GL 320 Bluetec is rated at 7,200 lb and the ML 550 is rated at 7,200 lb. How come in the ML 320 Bluetec application it is only rated at 5,000lb? MY suspicion is that it is an emission issue given the 50 state legal variant with the Urea injection. I have to tow a boat that is around +5,500 lb depending on the fuel and gear load and I don't want a vehicle that struggles.

Does anyone here have any insight on the issue? I am tempted to tow with the Bluetec and see how it goes. And I know that the 550 is kickass, but I already have a few gas guzzlers (plus boat). 25 mpg is looking good right now in an SUV.
Where did you read this? I have looked all over, including MB-Canada site (the only official site I can find with the ML320 Bluetec specs) and I keep getting verification that the 2009 ML320 Bluetec has a towing capacity of 7200 lbs.

Another towing question that I cannot find the answer to is what the tongue weight limit is for both dead weight and with an equalizing hitch setup. Any clues?

AZ.Benz A quick financing note:
When I bought my 08 ML, they gave a 1.9% MB rate because I bought a tire and wheel guarantee (and I have A1+ credit rating). The savings in interest over the 2.9% rate was more than enough to pay for the guarantee. This helps mollify my angst that MB would put pretty-boy tires and rims on an otherwise off-road capable vehicle. What were they thinking?

I chose the 08 for a number of reasons. Formmost is that I don't want to take out my spare and replace it with a Blew Tec tank. I'll take the spare and less expensive maintenance costs of the 08.

I learned in my engineering carer that adding complexity risks decreasing reliability. Californicate can have the Bluetec. I am sure MB has designed a great solution for them. For my money, I am satisfied with the 08 generation.

I looked long at the RX. Its an OK car, but it seems like a car with big tires when you drive it. I liked the reported reliability, but after driving the ML and the RX one after the other, for about 50 miles each, I had no more doubts. (Drove the MDX and beemer x5 also)

The ML is more vehicle for the money even though it costs a few bucks more. There were buyers hungry for my 98 ML trade-in in excellent shape. I was surprised that the MB dealer chose to keep it rather than wholesale it out, but it sold the first weekend on the lot. Have never seen an 98 RX hold up as well.
