Lightbulb Horn

Have you ever wanted to use the horn at times but can't ? Since it is electronic, horn won't work if the key is not engaged. Although I don't use it as much (except honking on those crazy drivers on the road), at times I need it, say for example you dropped the wife in the grocer and by the time she gets back out, you'll need to call her attention while you're parked somewhere. What do you think?

I never noticed this, since I only use the horn when the car is running.

All horns are "electronic." It's how it's wired that makes the difference and the Bosch standard used by German car makers specifies they only work when ignition is on--yes, unlike some American cars.

Thanks for the "electronic" clarification. So why do you think German cars' horns were not wired to operate unless the key is in the on position?

I have the same question as to why American car's gas tanks are in the passenger side while Japanese cars are in the driver's side.

Really, most American cars and trucks that I've owned or driven had gas caps on drivers side.

Japan is a RHD country like the UK.

It's generally considered to be safer to have the gas filler on the passenger side, per the safety experts.

"M".....if you ever run out of gas, and you are stuck on the highway, you can fill it safely on the passenger side, without fear of getting hit by a car or truck on the driver's side.......

What else is interesting is that the earlier ML's, W163's had the fill on the driver's side. Moved to the Pass side with the W164.

Is there a "horn mod"? My horn seems a bit soft and more of a beep than a HONK. Thanks. J-bird W163 M-Class 36 12-02-2003 09:40 PM
