Cool Daylight Saving Time

I was pleasantly surprised when I received an email from Mecedes Benz to not forget to set the clock in my new ML 320 CDI. But then I thought my $9.90 alarm radio has an auto time set feature. My weather station changes the time itself and here I am with a luxury vehicle with radio, satelite radio and gps system and I have to reset my clock manually? Is that what we paid for?

I guess you are right, but wouldn't it be nice to have the actual time everywhere even when you cross a timezone like your cellphone does?

Yep, that would be nice.

I wish the there was a temp gauge (instead of the temp gauge that you have to toggle through a bunch of menues to see) where the analog clock is. And the clock should be digital on the Nav screen.

Your clock should change for different time zones by itself. However for the DST change you must set the timezone screen to DST

Well, the car doesn't pick up the time from a network per se like a cellphone does. It literally only takes a minute for you to go into the Service menu and select daylight savings time. If you have navigation, it already syncs the time to the satellites.

The Alpine NAV in the ML/GL does indeed pick up the time from GPS.

What it doesn't do is pick up the hour and it doesn't automatically change when crossing time zones.

Go to Serv/Time menu and select (reselect) your time zone. Next question is y/n for daylight savings.

FWIW the Becker NAV in E-class (and I suspect others) does indeed automatically change when crossing time zones. Daylight savings is still a manual change, however.

I have NAV but since I didn't know that it will auto sync with the satellite, I still manually changed the time settings when DST came. I want to experiment, if I reset my time to standard time, will it go back to DST?

Yes I tried and you're right. I experimented resetting the clock back to standard time will not reset it to daylight savings time; goes back to DST automatically. I'll wait then in the fall when the clock turns back; my NAV sat should take care of it then. Thanks.
