I bought a MB Reversible Cargo Mat, Page 29 of the Genuine Mercedes-Benz Accessories M-Class catalog, # B6 768 0056, Grey.
The mat is not like it is shown in their catalog. In the catalog, it looks to be thin and pliable. In actuality, it is stiff like a floor mat with a hard plastic bottom with little spines sticking out to hold it in place. This is what the catalog calls "a smooth grippy side". The "soft fabric side" is carpet much like the floor carpeting in the ML. It is not very flexible and cannot be folded over like in the picture. And it is HEAVY!!
I laid it into the back of my ML with the bottom of the rear seats removed (part of the ML550 package). I could either lift the front of the mat up which would cover the vents on the rear of the console or push it down toward the floor. It is longer than the ML rear floor laid down to it's maximum length.
With the rear seat upright in place, I don't see how one would use the mat as the mat is so long, stiff and heavy, it wouldn't stand up against the back of the rear seat even if it could be folded there.
There is a piece of soft vinyl attached to the back of the mat attached by velcro to cover the rear "bumper". There are 2 elastic loops at the sides of the flap that you can loop around the plastic "tees" on both sides on the back of the ML to hold it up. One of the ends of the right elastic loop came undone. :-((
I would not recommend this mat to anyone.
Mr. Benz seems to be on a roll of disliking QUITE a few MBenz items. I note postings disliking the mat, running boards and wheel locks within minutes of each other.
I really like my reversible cargo mat. It is stiff, but that makes it easier to lay out. It covers the floor nicely. The flip down portion covers the rear bumper nicely when loading my dogs. It cleans up easily and provides a nice surface for the pups to lay on during our drives.
cschmelz, I find your comments very interesting. You obviously just love all of the MB ML items. Maybe I can learn more about how I could use the reversible cargo mat from you. Do you lay down the second row seats to accodate your dogs? If you do, what do you do with the left-over mat? If you leave the back seats up, half of the mat lays back on itself covering from the back seat to the end of the vehicle, almost 38 inches so you now has 3 layers of carpet and mat. If that is the case, do you end up with the plastic backing on top or the carpet on top for your dogs to lat on?

It is SUPPOSED to lay over on itself when you have the rear seats up. It doubles up perfectly when the rear seat backs are up. You then get to choose which side the dogs/luggage can lay on (soft rubberized plastic or carpet). If you put the rear seats down, you get to chose which side is up as well, all carpeted or all rubberized. Hence the name REVERSIBLE cargo mat. If the doubling up really bothers you, get a trauma scissors and cut it in half. You are complaining about one of the things I like about it. I use doubled up rubberized side up for dogs, then if I have something that doesn't need dog dirt on it, I reverse it. When I decide to put the rear seats down, I unfold it and it covers, SHOCKINGLY, the whole back area.
The mat is OK, but since I keep one or both of my rear seats down nearly all the time, I took mine to an upholstery shop and had the following modifications made:
Cut off the excess that curves up at the front and used it to create foldable flaps to cover the uncovered areas towards the doors.
Split it to match the 60/40 split in the rear seats.
I didn't find anything on the internet that I thought would work better and I definitely like the bumper cover flap....with the mods, it does a really nice job protecting my cargo area.
