Took a road trip from DC to NYC this weekend in my 06 ML350 and took note of the stats and re-discovered cruise control (i knew it was there, but never cared for it in any car before)
Distance (to Lincoln tunnel from DC burbs): 230 miles
Total time: 3:03
Average mph: 75 mph
Fuel economy: 21.8 mpg
My fuel gauge was showing a little over a half when i parked in NYC (should have tried to get back to DC on a single tank)
Along the way i decided to try the cruise control. I have had it in many cars but never really cared for it, but the cruise in the ML is really awesome. You literally can drive in heavy traffic conditions with the cruise control. I liked the ability to move in 1 mph or 5mph increments, and the choice used really determined if the brakes were used or not. I went a good 65 miles on the NJTP without touching my brakes or getting out of cruise control, in light and heavy traffic conditions. Very impressive, and it made the otherwise boring trip quite a lot of fun
Thought I'd share

The cruise control is my wife's newest toy even though the control stalk is in an ood place. She has called me a couple of times during her occasional commutes between Southern Maryland and Tyson's Corner, Virginia to brag about her fuel economy. Best indicated mpg she has hit is 31. With the price of diesel there has to be some joy somewhere!
