The Crankshaft Position Sensor has proven to be very troublesome for MBZ for quite some time. I remember recalls and TSBs on this part going as far back as 2002 across the model range (S-class, C-class, etc). My 2006 ML 350 died in the middle of a (luckily uncrowded) street and wouldn't come back to life in August of last year because of this exact problem.

I just this morning, picked up my 07 MLCDI at MB dealer repair for shutting down while driving.
They diagnosed the problem as crank sensor, but denied that any recall on this is happening. That was this morning. They must have known...
On the driving side, the car is running perfectly. I hope this was the fix.?
My '07 ML320 CDI lost power two days ago. It restarted after about ten minutes. I made it to the dealer where they performed the crank position sensor recall. It works fine now.
