Handling should be better with an active suspension. Does that make airmatic
a must have ? A lot of people are satisfied with the traditional suspension systems.
My doubts are related to
1. Reliability. Having a high pressure "air"(Nitrogen?) system
constantly pumped in and out of sealed rubber bellows and add to that the constant movement of the strut. What is the mean time to failure on these ?
2. Maintenance costs
Wear and tear items. How long does the air reservoir lasts ?
The air will leak out eventually since it is physically impossible to
have a 100% seal.
3. Safety
Is there a back up system if the airmatic fails, does the vehicle become a go-kart ?
Look, there is no active suspension available on the ML. Airmatic is the best alturnative offered. As far as MTBF's go I do not believe that there is any of this info available on the ML and its components which is the vehicle that this thread is all about. You seem quite arrogant and overly aggressive about this item. Maybe because you do not have it, could not afford it or could not afford the maint to keep it up. Best you stick with your bare bones vehicle.

On the contrary, they are plenty of ML's around without it
and if anything, your post above insults everyone who does not or chooses not to have the system.
Well this thread went downhill. But fortunately we are all ML owners trying to learn more about our vehicles (and solve problems that are common to many of them).

My first Benz (99 CLK) didn't have airmatic, but all three current family Benz do and the ride is for sure more comfortable.
I've still been searching for an ML in hopes of getting one by Valentine's Day so please keep your eyes open
Also, I've search concerning the AMG package and the Appearance Package and noticed there isn't much difference with the Appearance package compared to stock other than some chrome pieces correct?
Just found a ML350 that I'm considering buying but it has the Alcantara Seats (perfer leather) and the owner states the the Apperance Package all come with Alcantara Inserts:
Apperance gives you the Alcantara Inserts w/ MB tex, Aluminum Trim, Sport Seats/Pedals, 19: Chrome Sport Wheels, Premium Int Lighting, Chrome Ext. Accents, Privacy Glass, Roof Rails, TlleAid and Homelink
Is this true? Appearance packages basically everything he listed? If so, I'm going to take it off of my MUST have option list.
