To protect my cargo area carpet I want to get a cargo liner. The MB "Cargo tub" is more plastic-like, while the WeatherTech is more rubber like. The WeatherTech seems like it would be more slip resistant.
Can anyone make a recommedation as to which will have a better fit and function?
I have been pleased with other products from WeatherTech, but the MB liner has the star logo in the center.
I have the Weathertech and like it. I have had one instance where the back lip kept the rear door from fully locking once the door closed. I've never seen the M-B one. It definitely keeps the cargo area nice as the carpet and seat backs seem to dent and not spring back easily when things like luggage or computer cases bump against them. Maybe it's just the Ash interior color that shows more than others.
CJzBenz,
I have noticed the same thing happening to my black carpet- appears to be dented on the seat back, and it's really noticeable in black.
Thanks
I have the MB cargo mat and don't have any complaints with it. I'm not real familiar with the WeatherTech mat, so I'll just tell you about the MB mat. The surface is covered with a pattern of large squares that stick up about 1" and provide pretty decent grip. The mat is plastic but it's got kind of a rubber like feel to it. It's also got about a 1.5" lip all the way around so if you were to have anything spill, it wouldn't get on your beautiful carpet.

I also have the MB tray. Fits perfectly and was about $80 tax included from the dealer. They have added little holes at the four corners so one can use the tie-down hooks. That wasn't on the 163 tray. This is good unless you plan to have a lot of wet and dirty stuff in the tray that might leak through to the carpet. If the hooks are in the "up" position, the holes seem to seal pretty well, but if the hooks are folded down, liquids. sand. etc. could get through. I guess one could tape off the holes from underneath...
Good point on the MB mat. Guess I never noticed the holes in mine. Now that I think of it more, the MB mat (probably WeatherTech too) also covers the "cargo management" rails that come on the P3 package. Oh well, I probably won't ever use them anyway and on a daily basis the cargo mat is much more useful.
Another option to consider if you often put the back seat "down":
I bought the Reversible Cargo Mat from my dealer. Overall, in its original state, it is Unsat: when the back seat is folded down, it's too long and runs up along the turned down seats. It also does not adjust for one side being down and the other up.
Fortunately, there is an excellent uphostery shop nearby.....I had them remove the excess to make it fit perfectly with the back seats in the down position, split it so that one side could be down with the other up AND added "wings" from the excess to cover the sections near the back doors. They did all this for $100.
I like this option, rather than purchasing a liner from Cocomat, or other custom design from the Internet, due to the control and predictibility I had.
I have the "flap" that protects my bumper as I load heavy or awkward articles (like bicycles) into the rear, and I protect the original carpet.
Update-
I was able to get the MB cargo liner for free from m dealer (had an issue with my dealer and was able to negotiate this), and in the meantime I ordered the weathertech liner.
So with both on hand to evaluate, I have decided to keep the MB liner and return the weathertech. While the weathertech liner fits very well, the MB liner fits perfectly, and as previously stated in this thread, the four corners have slots that allow access to the tie-down rings if needed. I like the material the weathertech is made out of and it seems like it would be very durable. I hope the MB liner isnt prone to cracking because it's more rigid. Time will tell!
I have the MB tray in my 2003 ML350 also, and it's never cracked. It's not as shiny as the new model, so could be a different composition. I wouldn't expect this one to.
