I was going through this entire website and noticed something every thread had in common. Almost every post is about a problem someone is having with their car. What I want to do with this thread is list the people who own a W164 with absolutely no problems. In your post, be sure to include the year, model, mileage and options and how often you use those said options. Listing the options will allow others to determine weather or not the problems they are having with theirs is common.
Well I'm not going to say I haven't had any problems, but I am going to say that notwithstanding, my 2006 ML350 [with about 21,500 miles] is the best vehicle I've ever owned.
My problems and fixes:
1. Jerky transmission when downshifting to first gear. In the shop for three days and fixed by new transmission valve body and software upgrade. Now my transmission shifts silky smooth.
2. EWS dash idiot light continuously illuminated at about 19,000 miles. Fixed by new sensor.
3. Miserable tire wear [20,500 miles] on factory installed Continental Contact 4x4s. Fixed by replacement with 60,000 mile guaranteed, H-rated Yokohama Geolander HT-S'.
4. Cheap dash/door panels notwithstanding leather interior option. No fix, but I realized this deficiency up front and elected to ignore it [as did the rest of us].
I think it's unrealistic to expect you're NOT going to have some problems with any new car. You want to have REAL problems? Get a BMW!
I'm curious to see if there r any. We post on this forum to find solutions, but unfortunately i cant join this thread my car's the farthest thing from problem free!

No modifications to suspension or wheel or tire size.
No problems.
Plenty of tread on the tires
I am dissatisfied with the Command unit. My hand held Sirius radio and GPS units have more features and are easier to use. Bluetooth should have been built in.
Our 2007 ML 350 has been faultless. Its NAV system, once you master it, is excellent. The 7-speed transmission is smooth, the assisted braking brilliant, the backup camera clever, the Electronic Stability Program inspired, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety top award reassuring........... It's truly the best vehicle I've owned.
My 06 ML500 has been flawless since delivery in Sept of 05. Its my 3rd ML and by far the best. Currently have only 15000 miles on it. Has most every option except Parktronic.

One little thing.
Had my '07 ML320CDI since beginning of January -- just took it in for 'A' service yesterday at 7200 miles. Does this count as a problem? The left back passenger seat LATCH covers popped off and the MB tech broke one when installing it, so it has to be ordered.
Otherwise everything works fine, no problems to report.
That doesn't mean I think the truck is perfect -- I hate the way the rear dual DVD system doesn't integrate properly into the rest of the system. But for me it's almost perfect. -Gary
Thank you everybody. I am gateful for your replies, as I am leasing a C240, and when the lease is up, I am considering either an SLK350 or an ML320 CDI. I still have two years to make up my mind. The SLK350 is what turned me onto buying a Benz, and is still my dream car. And in another two years, they should be within the price range I'm comfortable with. But, with my C240 being 4Matic, and finding it a bit small, I am also looking at an ML 320 CDI. Bigger vehicle, less fuel... I'm alright with that. Only real problem is, the CDI just came out this year, so the price will be a little steep for me. Only time will tell. Again, thanks alot, you guys!
True.............Did I mention the '06 liftgate latch replacement, transmission shift servo replacement, transmission re-program, and low oil level cluster message re-program? But these items were taken care of at the 3,000 mile, "A" service, and the free "wheel rotation" visits so they did not inconvience me to any extent. The intermittent creaking noise is a very minor concern, but since my Service Advisor is dertermined to solve this mystery, while loaning me a new C-class, I cannot complain. When you purchase a new, completely redesigned model such as the '06 ML, you expect minor problems. "Pioneers are the ones with arrows sticking from their backs". Except for our '07 ML, it's the finest vehicle we've owned...........
