ML320cdi 4matic

I recently encounter the following problem:
Car starts up but stutters and dies out in 4-5 seconds after 3-4 tries and wait for approx. 8 minutes engine starts up and go with no problem.
Dealer now suspect that the crank sensor needs replacing after replacing fuel distributor.
Anyone has any similar problems???

You didn't try to start with fuel cap open or loose did you?

Are these things that critical to the fuel cap? I see all kinds of 3/4 ton trucks and diesel cars filling at the station with the motor running? Are you sure that you can't run the motor while filling as there isn't an explosion concern it would be nice to have the a/c running in the vehicle while filling if the wife and 2 kids were with.

A very bad idea on any new car with the fume purge cannister for emmissions. You will trigger a CEL and perhaps cause some damage. Read your manual.

I can imagine that this is a bad idea on a gasoline vehicle but on a diesel?

the problem is definitely not with the fuel cap being loose. Even with a new Crank Position Sensor the problem re-occured.

I just read your comment. I have had this problem occur twice in the past month. I don't know why it happens. Have you had any luck understanding what causes this? A friend of mine thinks it could be moisture in the gas I'm getting at the Gas Station (I refuel at the same place each time). I'm going to be taking my ML320CDI to the dealer next week.
