I have 13K miles on my Michelin HL Latitude 255-55-18 and maybe another 20K left. I use them all year except winter. For winter, I have 6K miles on my Conti Wintercontact and they look as new.

Have about your milege on my ML500 with the same tires. Happened to check them yesterday with a depth gage and have a bit more than half life left. However I have heard of some defective tires that were undercured in manufactur that were delivering poor life. I would check with your dealer and have him contact not MB but Continental.

Don't waste your time. There's no mileage guaranty on your tires. The tire's compound is "soft" which translates [purportedly] into better handling and worse mileage.
Furthermore, when you complain at tire stores they usually tell you 20K miles are pretty good for SUVs. Balderdash!
When my Continentals wear out at 19K miles or less [and yes, that's the schedule I think I'm on], I'm going to replace them with Yokohamas, Bridgestones or some other brand which comes with a 60K mile tread wear warranty [Dunlops and Michelins don't have tread wear warranties].
If you find something better, by all means share it with us.

I strongly disagree with you about Continentals. I had them on my 02 ML500 amd when I traded for my 06 there were 52000 miles on the tires that were original and I had at least another 10000 miles left in them. I also have them on my 05 E Class and have had no issues with 26000 miles and about 50 per cent tread life remaining. I think from my experience they are excellent tires, durable, long living, quiet and offer excellent traction in most conditions. I also know that there were some issues with a manufacturing under cure defect is some batches that were made about a year ago and know that Continental and MB did stand up to the problem.
Same issue here, I had to replace my Continentals after only 20,000km. They went completely bald in less than a year! I initially thought it was my fault for not having enough air pressure in it (was around 26psi). I only bother to check after the first 15,000km as the car came straight from the dealership. I did raise the problem at the first service, but no luck with the dealer. I now have Michelins and they are holding very well so far. Interesting to know that I am not the only one with the same problem with the Conti tyres.
to make ur tires last rotate and balance every 5000 miles, they should last a good 40k
Good advice in a vacuum thinkman. But in the real world, these tires aren't designed to last 40K miles, and they don't. Factory installed Continentals on my W163 lasted about 22K miles and two sets of after market Dunlops lasted about 35K miles/each. We're not talking passenger tires here; these are H rated SUV/Light Truck tires. The problem's not roughyear - it's the tires.
Maybe those who've had Continentals on different vehicles have had different model Continentals. Mine are the 4x4 Contacts and in my opinion, they're garbage [I don't even like the tread pattern].
If you want greater mileage buy a tire with a mileage guaranty. That's why I'll be switching to Yokohama HTs. Priced a bit lower than the rest of the pack, M+S rated and a 60K mile tread wear guaranty.
Well maybe but i still have the stock Michelins and i have 28k on the dial and still got some nice tread. Try looking up Toyos i have proxes on my audi and they say they last 50k if they are balanced and rotated every 50k miles, but continentals have softer rubber hence great handling, but heck i'm sure u know a whole lot more than i do.
