Here is the scenario, I bought my ML320 new in March and the Service Reminder was counting down from 10,000 miles right from the start. The sales rep said service intervals are 13,500 miles and it should be reset. I took it in for the complimentary check and pointed it out and the service rep said the reminder resets itself to our driving conditions and Service A can be required between 10,000 and 13,500 miles. I sort of buy that line, but since it started off at 10,000 miles and is constantly counting down I'm wondering. It's now just over 10,000 miles are we are taking it in this week for service. What has anybody else experienced? Should I be demanding the dealer to check for a software problem or update? Thanks for any replys.
I have 10,000 miles on it and we are taking it in for the service, but I was told by the dealer and it says in the M-B literature and their website that the service intervals are predictably at 13,000. Like I said previously, the display on the instrument panel started counting down at 10,000 miles not 13,000. I checked my service booklet and it says the intervals are at 10K but for some reason I'm thinking I was told that between 2006 and 2007 M-B up'd the mileage. So I'm thinking maybe my car did not get the reset or software change or whatever. I guess my question is whether or not any of you guys have run into this or are all your cars hitting 13,000 miles between service like the M-B advertising says? I'm thinking the M-B service reps I'm dealing with don't know and don't want to admit it.
Car is in the shop and service rep swears the ML320 CDI diesel is only good for 10,000 miles between services. His reference is the service documentation that comes with the car. Unless somebody comes up with something different I can refer them to I guess I am stuck with that. I have a call in for my sales rep who is off on Wednesdays since the extended service intervals was one of my buying points. Not much I can do now but enjoy the car for it's other virtues.
I do know that the gas cars are 13000 miles. Perhaps the diesel is a little shorter. However 10000 miles is a long service interval if you want longer buy a gas car or a bicycle.
CJzbenz, you did not state what your current odometer reading is at. We have a gasoline 03 E320 and I have noticed that the counter does not count down in a straight 1 driven mile to 1 counter mile ratio when doing highway driving. So the flaw in your logic is that you are assuming that the counter counts down in a 1 to 1 ratio with actual driven mileage. It seems to count down faster on cold starts and then at about 0.7 counter miles to 1 driven mile in our gasoline car on highway driving. There is also a time counter as well so the car will ask for service based on time if you are low mileage driver.
I could/should have checked more closely before posting, but for all practical purposes I have been watching it for 10,174 miles since March of this year. I was driving when it went over 10,000 miles and nothing happened. When I stopped for gas and restarted it came up and said Service A Due Now (or something like that) and I had gone about 10034 miles. So in my case it was almost 1 for 1, as the odometer counted up the service reminder counted down. Service A also cost me $306 at Mercedes Benz of Annapolis Maryland. I can't wait for Service B.... I think the honeymoon is over and my champagne taste is conflicting with my beer budget. But the wife likes the car and she is the primary driver so she can pay for the maintenance and life is good. Thanks for the replys by the way!
