Was refueling my 320cdi on a return trip from Quebec. Parked at pump, got out, took fuel cap off, and then noticed I might not be close enuf. Tried to move car ( with fuel cap off) but although it would turn over, it would not start. After fueling, it still wouldn't start. After 5 minutes and another dozen tries it started, and I drove another 200 miles to my cabin without stopping. Check engine light on the whole trip to cabin. When I arrived there, it wouldn't restart again. Again, ten minutes and several trieslater I got it started, and check engine light remained on. Yesterday morning, it started fine and I drove another 200 miles to my home, with check engine light on all the way. Last night, ran out for groceries and car not only started fine, but check engine light is now off.
Anyone have any ideas on whether trying to start with fuel cap open caused all this?
