Side Mirror Tilt in Reverse
We just picked up an ML320 CDI with navigation / backup camera. When I went to parallel park it, I put it in reverse and was surprised to find see that the side mirror on the passenger side did not tilt down for a view of the curb. I have gone through all the settings as well as the owner's manual and cannot find a thing about this. Does MB by chance think that this is not needed if you have the backup camera?

Does anyone have any insight on this? Thank you.
Works on my '06. I cannot fathom why they would delete this feature.

Setting the mirror switch to the right doesn't change anything. It's just dead. The dealer did a cop-out saying, "I think there was something about not having that feature when you have the backup camera...." He was completely disinterested in investigating further.

Agreed. It seems the feature is dead for all 2007 model US-spec W164 ML's. Well, at least it has been disabled for some reason or other and requires delving into STAR diagnostics to "hack it back" into operation. All the owners on this forum and the other MB forum who have insisted that the reverse-curbside-mirror-tilt feature works on their ML's either has an 2006 or earlier model (or perhaps a very early 2007 model) or a non-US spec model. I have a feeling that MB did away with this feature on the ML in order to improve their products' perceived reliability and bring their JD Power IQS rating up a few notches. Sad but probably true. My 2004 X5 had its reverse-tilt side mirror motor break in only 1 year of use probably because of overuse from the normally frequent engaging of reverse.
To reiterate what masmole said, the feature is not activated for all 2007 US models. One must go to the dealer and have it activated through STAR diagnostics. I have activated the feature on my 07 ML and my friends 07 CLS and it works perfectly.
