I'm looking to buy an ML, may wait until Fall, but was wondering if the Vance plant was still putting out problemed vehicles or if they have largely resolved the issues.
My other thought was that if I get an AMG version, I've heard that those vehicles get work done in Germany and I was wondering if it goes through some AMG Quality Control process, does that eliminate the Vance plant problems? I heard that AMG outfitted vehicles are all done in Germany, not sure if that's true.
Maybe those with 2007 MLs can provide some insight? I realize that these forums tend to have people expressing problems versus those discussing problem free vehicles, but thought I'd ask...thanks all!
I waited for the 2006 bugs to disappear, then ordered a 2007 ML350. I received mine in August. I hold on to my vehicles for a long time (traded in my 1998 ML320 with 160,000 miles). I got a P3 package with all the bells and whistles. Best vehicle I've ever owned by a long shot. Quiet, wonderful ride, great sound and navigation, comfortable. No problems after 16,000 miles. I would buy another one in a heart beat, despite what the consumer mags have to say. No one else makes a vehicle like this.
2007 ML 320 CDI with 3000+ miles on it and no problems. Fit and finsh are excellent. This is my first M-B and the only problem I am dealing with is "maintenance withdrawl syndrome". I have always done my own oil changes and general maintenance. This vehicle will be getting authorized M-B service and I have a hard time swallowing the cost but I'll get over it. Besides I've got other toys to keep me busy that I like working on more.

Just bought a 2007 ML320 CDI and absolutely love it!! Have had no problems with it in the month we've owned it. Drove it through an ice storm in PA a few weekends ago and the 4matic was great. Great fit & finish and has the typical solid feel of a Benz. I also own a '99 C43 AMG and you are right; all AMG vehicles are built in Germany at AMG headquarters. The engine is handbuilt as well and their quality control is great. I've had my car for 8 years and have only had to replace an a/c compressor. I don't think you'd be disappointed with the AMG - mine has been worth the extra $$$$.

2007 Ml320cdi (amg)
Just turned 5k on mine since Oct '06, not one problem yet. One of the best MBZ's I've owned, and of 22 Mercedes over 25 years, it's the only one not a 2dr (SEC's & SL's) Documented MPG: Lo 20, Hi 29, Avg 25.3 over 5100 miles. Did I buy the only one with the AMG Sport pkg?
got 23k on my ml500, only a few minor issues, such as: 2 rattles, tranny jerk, knocking, passenger airbag primed, etc. but no matter what i still think it's the best car in the world.

5 months and 7000km on the clock. Far more solid than W163. Overall, a much better car.
However, just had the Airmatic compressor replaced yesterday. Please see separate thread.
I guess mine is still too early to tell if quality problems sorted out. I am keeping my fingers corssed!
I have a 2007 ML350, picked it up just last Saturday with 8kms on the ODO, it had the jerky transmission problem right off the lot. I'm was not and am impressed.
If it weren't for the tranny problem, I would recommend this truck to anyone, it's beautiful and rides amazing. But it has transmisson problems, so take your chances, I did and I lost.

The ENGINES and such are built in Germany, the car itself is still built here in Tuscaloosa.
