Chrome Skid Plates

I was told my my dealer that the chrome skid plates for front and back will not fit on a 2006 ml350 if u have the appearance package on it. has anyone else heard this? he told me he can color match all the black plastic instead. i saw that they did it on a silver ml350 in the showroom, and it looked nice.

I dont think that is true! I got a 320 CDI with appearance package and chrome skid plates on it, I assume it would fit the 06 350 as well!

Does installing the skid plates on the front and rear increase the overall length of the ML; i.e. would the skid plates be the first item in the front or rear on the ML that would touch a garage wall, for instance?

No, it will not increase the length of the car. In the front the license plate will hit the wall first.

In the back the skid plate is even with the bumper!

I installed them on my '06 with Appearance back in 11/05. T hey're actually stainless steel, not chrome. They are very expensive, for what they are, especially the front one. Front installation requires removing the bumper cover. I did the rear myself--here's a link to my post, which includes part numbers and prices:

Do you have to replace the black valence when the standard ML350 skid plates are replaced with the chrome skid plates? The chrome skid plates cover a larder part of the overall bumper so I did not know how it worked. Thanks. Peter

Yes, at the rear, but not front. The valance is formed to accept the plate. Everything comes as one kit.

I am not so certain that these plates are chrome. They appear to be a brushed stainless steel.
