"Cold" Air Intake

I've done this before on other vehicles (didn't see much performance gain, got a neat sound out of it though!), and I wanted to get feedback from other ML owners.

Has anyone seriously looked or implemented an intake system on their ML? There's a few companies that have the system, I understand the whole thing on oiled filters & the MAF sensor and the micron rating of the filters themselves and so on..... however that being said I just wanted to get some feedback so I can make a somewhat of an informed decision if this is something I want to do..... thanks!!!

Funny enough, I was thinkning about doing the same thing with my ML500. However, you said you didn't see any performance gain at all with your vehicles? If that's true, why would you want to do it for you ML?

I'm quite a newbie to the tuning game, and have been told the intake, lightweight flywheel and pulleys, and a performance chip are the most "bang for the buck" options. Is this true?

You just spent $60,000+ on a Merecedes Benz. Why would anyone want to rice it up with after market performance parts? Even if it's just for sound. These cars have way too much electronics to be mucking it up with aftermarket crap like air intakes and performance chips.

I don't know about you guys, but if I wanted more horsepower or a sportier sounding engine, I wouldn't have bought an ML350.

But hey, to each their own.

You will see no performance gain at all. The best filtration is whats in there. Why do it and waste your cash?? All you can do is some possible damage.

I thought it was pointless to chip a car unless it was f/i.

I'm not trying to "rice" my car at all. If I do any mods, I want them to look be hidden from view from everyone, and not flaunt it. I would just like more umph from my truck. If Ihad the $$$, I would have gone for the ML63. Unfortunately I couldn't, so I'm looking for ways to improve the engine's performance.

Thats not ricing anything ok. If i were to go out buy some cheapa** 15inch wheels and stick it on, put those cheapa** honda mufflers an unpainted bodykit and some neons that would be ricing it out. Putting a real chip by like brabus, lorinser, kleemann, etc. won't hurt. And i put k & n air filters on my c240 and Audi A4 and let me tell u the c240 is so much more responsive and quicker, no joke, i think it'll even take the audi, the intake system might help a bit not much on hard takeoffs, but on everyday driving you'll see a difference. I don't know about pulley kits and what not, but a chip, some kleemann free flowing mufflers with trapezoidal tips, and k & n air filters should be enough gain. My opinion though; but there's nothing wrong with messing around with ur car as long as u take into consideration the small risks and take care of it and follow directions. The oil covering the mesh lining is crap, ur supposed to let the k & n filter sit for awhile after replenishing it with the oil before u reinstall it. By the way AsianML if ur talking about fuel injection, uhm from what i know all cars after the 80s are fuel injected. Also, i like a stock look with some small touches, if it's not made for the car don't retrofit it.
