anyone installed SQUARE Exhaust Tips on stock oval pipes?
anybody installed the Square exhaust tips on stock oval pipes???
i looked up the square exhaust tip equipped MLs, and they seem to have a smaller "round" pipe underneath the square tip, so fitting it to the bigger oval pipe seem impossible....
I did Install them on my ML...You have to cut the old ones out and weld the square ones..the dealer qouted me around $300 and then went to the local Midas shop and they did the job for $60. it took around 10 minutes
juank350, looking at the square tips, it looks bolted on to round pipes inside, does the round pipe come with the square tips when u order them? My stock oval pipes taper into smaller round pipes goin to the muffler, so i believe i would need to cut the ovalized portion then leave the round pipes to weld with the square tips..... correct?
true, since the tips are welded, they look bolt on so do mine, but they are welded. You would have to cut them off then weld on the new ones. I's rather put Kleemann trapezoidal exhaust tips, look much better, stock one's too small.

any pics of your install? thanks.
The square tips comes with a small round tube(about 2 inches) sticking out from the back side...once you cut out the old round tip...the round tube on the new square tip fits into the original exhaust and then you just weld them on..I bought the tips at the dealer by the way..they were around $110 each..
When I picked up my ML CDI back in late November the dealer showed me an 164 option book that had the oval AMG chrome tips as an option. The book even had a photo of them . They looked great, but when I ordered them the dealer came back to me and said only the square ones are available.
There is an small adv in the Star mag from a place in Canada offering chrome exhaust tips( from Gremany), but no web site or photos. I think I will call them.
