Dutch - ML CDI driving impressions

Dutch, I am interested in hearing you impressions of the ML so far.
After your post on tire pressure, I checked mine and found the pressue from dealer was also high at 42 psi on all 4 tires.
I still don't feel comfortable with 7 spd trans yet, especially at lower speeds and in town driving.

I'm very pleased. I'll bet getting those tires in proper pressure improved the ride. It sure did for me.

I have had no problems with the 7G-Tronic. One day - the next morning after I had been driving it a bit more aggressively - the 3->2 or 2->1 downshift (not sure which one it was) was very hard when cold. After it warmed up, it smoothed out; and it hasn't done it again since.

I especially like the ability to one button adjust the Airmatic to comfort for speed bumps.

So far, so good. Of course, that what the guy said as he passed the 37th floor after jumping off the Empire State Bldg.

All I said (and I'm not sure where I posted it originally) was that I was very dissatisfied with the ride of the Airmatic - as it was delivered from the dealer - in any and all of the three settings. When I checked the tire pressures, they were all at 37-38 psig. When I lowered the fronts to the proper 32 psig and raised the rears to 39 psig, the ride improved 1000%.

No, you just need to adjust the pressure when the tyres are cold.

southern driving impressions

I love my new ML 320 cdi which is barely two months old. Obviously in the Caribbean we do not have any of the issues of your cold weather situation but our own unique problems....not that I have found any yet. The ML handles beautifully, HK sound system is gorgeous, telephone/Ipod interfaces work perfectly, standard AC copes fine with a hot day so far (although our 'winter' too it still gets above 80 degrees), and generally very responsive with a very spunky engine. Although it takes a second to kick in, the torque is impressive. Initially a bit of jerkiness in the transmission downshifting at low speed smoothed out after a few days of driving. The finger touch controls on the steering wheel take some getting used to and I kept inadvertly manually shifting gears and signalling at first. My only minor complaint is the amount of smoke I get when I accelerate quickly. We only have one grade of diesel here and I notice (paricularly at night) when I blast off and look in the rear view mirror to see a cloud of smoke. It is a bit like smoking a cigar in this eco sensitive world....even though it may not be as toxic as it looks, it is still offensive and I can't help feeling a bit self-conscious about it.
