Hi~ I'm new to this list, but, like a lot of folks I've been reading, seems to be the "surprises" that bring us here! Anyway, I have had my ML 500 for a year and dearly love the car from bumper to bumper, but the Service C came due. Today, the dealership called me and told me that my brake disks and rotors needed to be replaced...Admittedly, driving here in the Middle East is wicked hard on brakes, but, at 6000 Riyals... which is about $1600 USD???!!! Does that sound right for a car with 32,000 Km (~20,000 miles)? The service (oil change, etc.) is another 2000 Riyals (about $500 USD). Total cost is looking to be upwards of well over $2000+ USD. Can this be right?

I can't offer any insight into the pricing there, being limited in worldview to Maryland in the US, but the equivalent of $1600 USD for a brake pad/rotor swap and another $500 for a glorified oil change seems excessive. I wonder what the breakdown is between parts and labor costs for those estimates? I love my new truck and there's a lot to like about Mercedes service for the most part, but I think I would be buying the parts from the least expensive reputable/available supplier and learning enough to do it myself... -Gary
