It is amazing to me that on a brand new engine the first oil change is at the normal interval of10-13 K miles.
I thought the first oil change would be much sooner because of break in issues.
The whole break in process seems so minimized in the new cars.

Thanks for clarifying. So if i bought the car then i can take it anywhere for service as long as i keep good records? That makes sense.

But even if you lease, you are better off going to the indie because you will end up ahead by atleast $500 in saving...and most indies actually do the job right and doo everything they are supposed to. The dealers are only interested in "beating the book" to make money

Can synthetic oil last 13k miles or 1 year? Probably not but if that's what MB recommends then I'll go with it. I bet the oil filter stops doing a good job after half the mileage.
I'll try to get a quote from the MB dealer on the B service before I go give them my hard earned $.

That's what the MB and BMW engineers believe. My indi suggested that I replace the oil at half the suggested mileage at ~6500miles. In my BMW, i replace it annually since i dont get upto 15k miles in a yr and so I may do the same with MB. I have no issues to date with my BMW engine

What Indie are you going to if you don't mind?

Sy-oil is usually good for 12k miles under normal driving conditions.

Herb Gordon MB didn't stamp my manual after doing my service. I assume it is all in the computer system??
