Wow! I'd bring it right back to the dealer and have them check it out. Shifting with the paddles is simple and definite, click them and they should transfer gears.

I understand from my salesperson that if you don't use the transmission correctly in general, and a problem is created by misuse, the problem may not be covered under warranty. BTW, it is not an option. It's part of your 7 speed tranny.

Good luck!

Hi

On mine I found that the left button only operates a downshift when you click it on its inner side. The button seems to operate as two switches and rocks on the center. So to get the transmission to go manual I press the part of the left button nearest the steering hub and then can use the right button for up and down changes. I hope that makes sense. When I first used em they did not seem to work and then I figured out why. I would prefer paddles and hardly ever use the manual mode.

I found that you need to hold the paddle shifter down for a second or to to get it into manual mode. Also the same for going back to auto.

Both buttons should work the same way. There should be no difference in either button. There is no manual mode as such. These buttons work the same way as moving the older type gear lever to low in the earlier ML's or tapping it left or right in the newer ML W163's.
