I like it a lot...probably would have picked this over the ML just for the 3rd row seating alone (which i've come to realize would come in handy fairly often, with 2 kids, in-laws, etc.) ..I think it's a nice, subtle revision, and the interior looks cleaner than i thought it would.

BMW are good in words and masters in the description of their systems with eye popping titles. The design is really better than I expected because the original concept was shifting toward the X3. The Rear-View Camera is a plus. MB are including it in their ml.1 upgrade and they really missed it the first time. I would not have favored the new X5 because of the “standard” Runflat Tires. I have these Runflats on my 330xi. They are as hard as granite and make the ride harsh and painful on our holes infested roads and streets. I prefer to drive the 330xi in winter after replacing the Goodyear Runflats with the softer Pirelli Snow tires. Hence, whatever words BMW chooses for its “Electronic Dumping Dynamic Ride…” I sill believe the ride will be stiff for my taste, specially after many happy months with the Aimatic of the ML.
i actually think the engine choice for the X5 is a weak point, the gap between the 3.0 v6 and the v8 seems too large to me. I would have preferred a 3.5 liter v6 with horsepower in the 270-80 range. Regardless, i really like the looks of the new X5, especially the front hood, modern without being garish.
Couldn't agree more. BMW are the leader in Europe with their diesel engines though. My brother has a ML320 cdi sport and it is a great car with good performance etc, but i just know that the X5's 3 litre diesel engine will be better. The BMW 5 series equivalent to my CLS is around a second faster (standard)
Good choice, not point in changing your car already. And besides the new X5 wont't be rated 100% better than the new ML. The W164 as you know has got good write ups in mags n stuff, Unlike the W163 in which the X5 killed.
They still have free service on the 07's? Side note, I drove a 06 C and a 06 330 and I would have to say w/o question BMW blows the C away..
After coming back from europe last week, MB has lost its touch. More and more are used as taxi's. From my talks with the locals, MB has lost a lot in the past few years and they have many issues.
I sitll love my E, but I will buy my wife a new BMW soon. Many talks with my friends who are in our car market class will also choose bmw over MB. Sad but I think MB needs to rethink there approach.
To be fair, the '06 C is based on an aging platform whereas the '06 3 series is a new platform, so one would expect the 3 to win hands down, which it does. MB has scored hits with the CLS and, i believe, the new S class, which is more desirable than the current 7, which, like the C class, is aging. MB needs a new C and E class, and quickly.
