But my rain-sensing wipers are wiping...this happened on the way home from work. Sunny day, not a drop, not a cloud, and my windshield was dry.
Anyone else has this problem? I toggled the wipers through all their settings, did everything short of shutting down the vehicle (I was in traffic) but that wouldn't fix it. Set it the wipers to OFF for a bit and the problem cleared itself up. It did not appear the sensor was fouled or had any other debris on it that would cause this to happen.
Any ideas?
I'm going in for Service A tomorrow, I will certainly talk to them about it. I also have a really squeaky sunroof (sounds horrible when it's opening and closing) and my tailgate always thinks it is open (it's manual, not power).
I dont have a ML yet, but I do have rain-sensing wipers on my C-class, owned the car for 5 years, now and then the wipers have started wiping without a drop of water on the windshield....I think the rainsensor reacts to dust as well, because this happens often when the windshield is dusty....this is my explanation, dont know if it is the right one....
Eagle, sounds like a possibility. Along with dust any other debris, bug guts, can set it off as well.= although I have not had this issue but sounds good. Have them look at it anyway and wait for the cannot replicate excuse.....

I told them about it, just so at least it is documented when the damn thing finally craps out and they try and blame it on me.
They wanted $360 for Service A...what highway robbery. I told them I was leaving and taking it down the street to the other MB dealer who quoted me $225, it was interesting how quickly they "realized their error".
I hate dealers, car repair shops, etc, there have to be a few honest ones out there, but I'm yet to run into one.
So they ended out replacing the light and rain sensors during service A, they did a "short test" (That's what is says in the shop notes) and it warranted replacement.
They also replaced the latching mechanism for the tailgate (it kept reporting it was open).

Not bad, all under warranty, done pretty fast.
bmustaf, I had the similar problem when I took my Car for Service A.
Refer to this thread that I started, that discusses the same:
