Gas Mileage

On my recent trip to Wichita, I got 17.74 miles per gallon. My average highway speed was 80 MPH. There was about 15 miles of city driving on the tank. I am pretty pleased with the performance. Has anybody calculated their mileage?

I live at 5280 ft and am frequently in the CO mountains (upto 12k feet on some passes, even higher on Mtn Evans Rd). Going up to ski (I usually drive pretty fast, 90+ in areas) I will get 16 MPG at best, usually low 15s. Coming back down I can easily pull 18 MPG even at those speeds, I use the manual rocker switches to engine brake quite a bit, too, but I don't think that hurts mileage that much since I'm not on the gas even though the engine is spooled up.

RE: Gas Mileage

My total average is 18.3 miles after 5,000 + miles I mostly drive highways at 75-80 mph. AC is off during the winter. Does anyones altitude register on the GPS mine always shows 0?

Of course the GPS will show 0 in NJ. The whole state is about at sea level. I notice the same thing when driving to my beach house there. As far as mileage goes, with my ML500 I am getting 19.2 on the road at 75 to 80 MPH and about 13 around town. The road mileage is slightly less than my 02 ML 500 and the around town is a bit more.

RE: Gas Mileage

How does the ML handle at 12,000 feet with regard to power and acceleration?

Mine works. We are about 1200 feet in elevations (so when the oceans start to rise, this is where you want to be [:D]) On the way up to wichita I notices the elevation ranging from 800 to 1200 feet on the way back.
