if my list were anything like that 55 item list, rest assured i would seek a refund. However, i should be getting my car back tomorrow (3 days in shop) and will give it a chance after the fix. They checked spark plugs, fuel injector, etc. to try to determine why the engine was running rich, but it sounds like they weren't able to pinpoint the problem. they claim that the car is now running within normal emissions and fuel mixture limits. I told them if i get the check engine light again (which would be the third time) that they would have a serious problem on their hands, and they agreed. To the dealer's credit, it does seem like they are really trying to fix the problem this time (and have put on about 40 miles of testing miles to prove it).
still holding out hope for a smooth, trouble free ownership experience once i get my car back...

Hope it all works out for you and your experience becomes as good as mine. My ML500 has been essentially flawless. As for Adam Nelson, its strange that with all those problems he still owns the car and has not traded out of it??? Some of what he reports is BS, light bulbs?? This is my 3 rd ML, had a 98, 320, an 02 500 and now the 06. My 98 was good and the 02 was terrible at first but became an excellent car with the cooperation of my dealer. The 06 as I said has been flawless. During this time I also owned 2 E Class 4 M's and they have been excellent.

I couldn't pursue the lemon law, because the only single problem that took a couple/few tries to fix was the Check Engine light and once they figured out the problem, they fixed it. The running board lights were really just an annoyance and have now been working for over a year.
I haven't traded the ML because I paid cash and would have lost about 1/3 of the value by the time I realized it was having continuing problems - or about 1/2 the value after the first year or so, by which time I had experienced so many repairs.
The 55 is great fun to drive when everything is working, but it's been one annoying series of small problems, exactly like my experience with my wife's E320 (traded in). No one problem was really major, barring the steering issues which required five trips to the shop but were fixed before they caused a dangerous situation. It's mostly small things that just pick away at the perception of quality.
My brother in law has a number of exotics, including Lamborghinis, 911 Turbo, Cayenne Turbo, Viper,... He says "You wouldn't kick your super-model girlfriend out if she broke down once in a while, would you?" He's got a point, but it's not the "super-model" AMG engine that's breaking down. It's the plain vanilla MB electronics, navigation, lights, steering, seats,...
i agree with Adam, i would not buy another Benz if i experienced the same problems he did, which is a shame b/c they are fun to drive when they aren't in the shop. Good luck with your next purchase, whatever thay may be (I suspect something Japanese).
I'm (finally) picking up my car today after work, apparently it's all systems go. Of course, now, i'll be looking for the check engine light every time i start her up, but we'll just have to wait and see...wish me luck.

AdamNelson, Just curious, what dealer in the Phila area doi you do business with??
Sosh - I was using R&S for the first few years. They're (usually) very nice and only 15 minutes from Elkins Park. I got fed up with problems not being fixed when promised and not getting a loaner unless I reserve two weeks in advance. Then their shop burned down (unfortunately my ML wasn't there that week). More recently, I've been driving all the way to Keenan in Doylestown. The service seems to be better, but it's an hour away. Now that I'm off warranty, I'm using Elkins Park Auto (Larry Weiss) at 611 and Church Rd for maintenance. He knows MBs and does good work a little cheaper than the dealer, and I can drop it off and walk home in five minutes. He's also a tirerack.com dealer, so he gets me tires and does the mounting etc. for the online price.
One of these days I'll get sufficiently fed up with a problem and trade the 55 on a whim for an FX45 or something. I'm going to the car show's black tie preview next week to pick my next vehicle. I can't wait!
