I think you can catch more flies with sugar than you can with vinegar......ask for a loaner until they fix the problem! Yes I think you were over reacting
paying in full like i did makes it easier as no early settlement fees to worry about, simply give them the spare keys and the log book and collect the cheque
Being furious is not going to help. They can pull the fault causing the light and fix it. Sounds like to me that you are out of control and perhaps putting the dealership in a position where they do not care to see you or, for that matter work on your vehicle. You seem a bit arrogant and demanding. There is no need for that and its not going to help you. Sure, its annoying but no body did this to you intentionally.
When I decided to buy this car, my mindset was to try and stay positive when problems eventually come up because after all, mb still has bad reliability issues and this is a brand new "first year" vehicle. But I didn't know I would experience so much serious issues that relates to the heart of a car, the engine. (i.e jerky transmission, check engine oil message that pops up every here and then) For those of you who haven't experienced any problems, consider yourself very fortunate. As for the ones with problems, like me, it's a huge inconveience to drop off and pick up the car every other few weeks when it's not even fixed. Yes, my dealer do provide loaners. But I don't think anyone should pay for any car, let alone a world-reknown brand like MB, to let it sit in the service shop while our asses are sitting in a loaner. I have given them alot of opportunities and the problem still persist. I have also given them politeness from the beginning and maybe we do have to be a bit rude to get things done. And NO.., I don't think we are over-reacting or "seem a bit arrogant and demanding". WTF did this stupid comment shoot out from.......... All I know is in California, 3 strikes and you are out!!!!! Period.............
It always seems its my luck that these things happen. I still think there are problems with my brakes, as when i hit them to slow down, they make a crunch, grind sound.
Dealership said they duplicated it once, then they could not find the problem, even with taking the rotars off etc.
my nearest dealership is 45 min away for me, it is such a hassle.
well, i'll let the dealer try to fix the problem again, but if it happens again before the next 40k miles, MB is in all likelihood going to get a letter.
MB needs to learn a serious lesson from Toyota/Lexus, there's a reason why Lexus dominates sales charts and quality surveys. Yeah, i realize the ML has the German intangible, but if this keeps up, screw it.
i'll give the ML another chance, but i haven't even hit 2k miles, for pete's sake. i really want to love this car, all it will take is some trouble free miles. is that too much to ask?

The Check Engine light indicates a real emmissions control problem, or more likely, a faulty sensor or other part of the system. Since OBD-II standards took effect the extra complexity of the diagnost systems has made this a much more common occurence in vehicles in general. The plus side of the system's complexity is that diagnostic codes are automatically stored, so the source of the issue SHOULD be fairly easy to isolate.
I can understand your frustration with the inconvenience, but it's not a mojor problem like a defective engine or such. If you have a decent dealer they should be able to get to the bottom of it. If they tell you they've fixed it, make them explain exactly what they did.

i appreciate your input, Greg. They 're-calibrated' the offending sensor last time (i.e. 4 days ago), perhaps a replacement is in order. I am curious as to who makes these sensors, and why they can't be fashioned in such a way that they don't fail after such a short period of time. they are too fickle. same goes for the faulty auto liftgate mechanism i had - these are parts that experience heavy usage, and should be tested, tried and true before they see the consumer.
again, if this were a 18k Hyundai with a faulty sensor, i would chalk it up to expectations, but i paid over $50k of my hard-earned money to enjoy the vehicle, and it has been a headache thus far. Mercedes has seen their reputation go by the wayside due to problems such as this - i was banking on the fact that they had addressed these issues, and so far have been proven wrong. that being said, i will give the service dept. and car another shot at fixing this problem before i bolt off to a Lexus.
can you post which diagnostic fault codes were found in your ML 350? Then someone might figure out which sensor you are talking about. There are many different ones as you can see from the list below:
I don't understand why everytime there is something wrong with a car in the US, you guys always want your money back.
I know it is a pain in the ass, but you could have bought a $150K and had the same problems. The same with a $15K car.
The price of the car has no bearing on whether or not it will have problems or not.
Let this be a leason to all of you, I learned it the hard way too, never buy a first model year car. Wait a year or 2 until the majority of teh bugs are worked out.
If I get a ML320 CDI, it will be atleast the 2nd or 3rd year that we have them.
...and if you think Toyota/Lexus don't have their share of problems and are perfect, you live in a dream world...
