Why can't they let you drive your ML while they are waiting for the parts? It might be that they are out of windshields with the blue tint and are waiting for on to come from the manufacturer.
If your ML has the rain sensor make sure that it works proplerly after the installation of the windshield.
Oh, btw I was told that the windshield was part of the roof support so you want to make sure that they use the correct materials to bond the windshield to the body.
thanks AndyFracica. i thought with the recent rain we've been experiencing here in oakland, ca, it would be wiser to have them keep the car in their shop because of the water/air leaks from the windshield. i called mb parts dept this morning and they say it only takes 2-3 days for the windshield to get delivered. they do not know of any other special parts involved. i'm guessing because this is a fairly brand new vehicle, the body shop might not know how to install it and waiting for further instructions from mb. hope everything works out.
Thanks for your response. I double-checked with parts dept. and they say other than tint, no difference whatsoever. So decided to order blue-tinted windshield which will take 2-3 days for delivery and $250 labor cost. [:(]
Oh btw.., do you think the labor cost will be cheaper if I let someone else do it??? Is it a wise move because afterall, only MB techs are familiar with the new ML???
Doesn't your comprehensive insurance cover it? Mine is $250 deductible to cover replacment. Godd independent glass shops can be as good or better than the dealer because all they do is glass. Just verify they are using the factory part.

Yes, I did jump the gun when I made the statement about labor cost. Later found out my $100 comprehensive covers everything.
FYI, just picked up my car and I still don't think they installed a laminated blue-tinted windshield. Expressed my concern to the body shop manager and he said they ordered the part based on VIN# because appearently, that's how MB distinguishes a ML with/without appearance package(comes with blue-tinted windshield). I will go to a dealer and hopefully find another with appearance package so I can compare. As for the labor, they put a lot of black-gewy tar like substance in the middle area where the water-leak occurred. I had to wipe off the excessive amount myself. Also, I noticed a new set of foam across the entire bottom of winshield. checked rain-sensor and it worked fabolous.
You should be able to see the blue tint w/o going to the dealer. Open the door and look at the front door window, you will see it then do the same for the windshield.

I did that to state my point with the body shop manager and he showed me the parts # for the regular and blue-laminated windshield and matched it up with the VIN# of my car. I swore that the original/factory blue-laminated windshield had a much more bluish tint to it. Inconvience..., but I will have to make a trip to the dealer and hopefully find a ML with apperance package to compare.
