Well since everybody didn't have anything bad to say about the VW Touareg VS the MB ML (if there was somebody they would have said something! There were only good thoughts about it, and I take the no response as good thoughts as well), I am going to ask now if anybody knows of a feature or secret feature that the 06 MB ML500 might have that the 06 V8 VW Touareg might not??!!

The Toureg and its brother the Porsche, have been deemed commercial failures by auto industry expert anylists. No one has heard much good about either vehicle. I do know that our local VW dealer has bought back several that he sold and at least one of those has purchased an ML.

In my opinion, (and I am not trying to be biased because I really like the ML) but I rather have a unique car than something that everybody has! It just doesn't make you feel special anymore. [V][:)]

The differences of the ML500 with the VW Touareg V8 are:

ML500 VW V8
Hp 306 310
Nm 460 410
L/00Km ~18 >20

And the big difference is when you drive the cars.

All I can say is that the Porsche has far less issues then the current ML.

Not according to the people that own the Porsche!! I in fact have had no issues with my 06 ML which is my 3rd ML.A friend bought a Porsche 8 weeks ago, dealer did a buy back and he now has an ML on order.

The W163 was a commercial success, lots were sold and proftably for MB and their dealers. On the other hand, Porsche and VW sales have been terrible with many dealers having a years supply at current sales rates in stock. Read the numbers as published in many financial publications.

ML and R sales are very poor for this class of car. Not that I want to have a car that everyone else is driving, although there is a reason why others are selling at a higher ratio then the current ML and R class. For some reason many people are buying the Porsche over the ML, maybe they are hearing bad press from people like me who is pissed at my 06 ML and the problems. If you have not seen my other posts, I have had my car since the end of July and have had it in the shop at least one time a month with a min stay of 3+ days a visit. I have been w/o my car for approx. 3 weeks now total, and have started the process for buyback. Prior to me picking up my car this next time the Dir. of the dealership and I have come to terms that this is the last time, and will have it on paper.

From what I have been hearing also the E my other choice if I have buyback is not doing well either, and has been in the shop a lot as well. So I have started to look at other brands, such as Porsche, BMW, Audi, and Lexus.

My wife and I thought that we were going to buy MB forever after we bought our ML, but MB has proven us wrong. QUILITY is far behind other brands that I have owned prior. So unless MB ups the QC process, they will continue to slip through the cracks.

Also, by reading other posts, I am not the only one who is having major issues, and has either sold, or had a buyback. Since I bought my ML, if I decided to sell I would lose my shirt on the deal, so MB would need to buyback. The current lemon law of my state is 4+ times for same issue and or not in use for 3+ weeks. I am on the edge of actually meeting both.

RE: Features

Hi,

Doesn't this just go to show that all manufacturers have a few (%ages vary) 'dodgy' cars and that this percentage is inevitably high(er) early in the life of a model i.e. every marque has it's 'horror' stories. Modern (technology loaded) cars are intricate 'beasties' so a few 'gremlins' are (perhaps) to be expected.

It's how the marque reacts that's important i.e. buy back 'lemons' and rectify faults speedily (especially intrinsic production line faults).

From reading MB threads many of the initial problems have been dealt with and Europe bound cars are getting further quality checks in Germany.

At least one 'lemon' (Steve's) has been bought back and hopefully endodoc's situation will be resolved to his satisfaction.

Mercedes do seem to be (more) determined that their latest models (more) meet the standards attained in the past as compared with the recent quality hiccup.

Happy New Year to you all.

Cheers,

Dieter (UK)
