Tire Pressure Monitoring System

Does anyone know how does the Tire Pressure Monitoring System work in ML. Will it alert if the tire pressure is couple of points low then recommended or it will alert only in case of serious deflation or puncture...

I am aware that it will not show the pressure in individual tires but would like to know the specifics of how it works or what information it can provide.

On a related note, Tele-Aid subscription is free for 1st year. What about Roadside Assistance and use of SOS button from the Car, I am not sure whether it is free lifetime or for some specific period...

It uses the BAS sensors to detect difference in wheel rotation speeds over time. I don't know the sensitivity of this particular system, but I would guess it's not better than 5 psi or so. Here is some information on the system, and also of the direct-reading type that may become an option in the future:

Services are provided only if you are subscribed. The basic package is provided for a year, then you must pay a monthly fee. There is an upgraded package available, including concierge service, both for the free period and later on. Information here (you must log into Owners Online):
