During my 1k mile checkup, I noticed my w164 is slightly higher than the ones in the lot. I've had this suspicion ever since I got the car. I know this by comparing the gap between the top of the tires and the bottom of the fenders. First I thought it was just an illusion since I have the 19" wheels and 255/50 tires. So I pulled out my miniature tape measure and started measuring. I found that I am sitting .5 inch higher than normal height. I checked this against three MLs in the lot and found the same thing. I made sure the ground was level when measuring. I don't have airmatic and neither did the three other MLs I checked. My service advisor asked one of the service managers about this and he said it could be adjusted. They will have to put it up on the alignment rack and measure. I'm just curious, what can be adjusted? And why would mine come out of the factory .5 inch higher? Has anyone else seen this?

Maybe your car was in line at the in AL to get airmatic and was shipped by accident... This was just pulled out my butt, although it could be the case.

That's happened before -- it's a well documented issue. The ONLY time this .5 inch rise occurs is when the vehicle is taken offroad (see pic below) prior to your delivery. The stretching of suspension components during jumps causes the extra lift. Another clue is that your odometer will have 1 or 2 miles on it when you first pick it up. Did it? Hope this helps. [;)]

Can you please write more regarding the odometer? When I got my car it had 11 miles. It was a dealer trade although they shipped from the other dealer on a truck.
endo, I was just pulling his leg!!! The mileage thing was just to add effect. I can't help you on your 11 miles, but now you know I might make up a story for a few laughs....
On 2nd thought, could have been test-driven at the other dealer by prospective buyers. I alway like to see fewer miles, but the reality is these cars are on the lot and people do test-drive. I'm always gentle, knowing it's someone's future pride & joy. This time, true answer!

Thanks, I just never know with MB. I have had all Jap cars, this is my first MB! Have a good weekend, off to watch the horses race.

axbh96, thanks for your words of wisdom. I asked a serious question and you make fun of it. Hopefully, no one will believe anything you say in the future because you get a kick out of playing with people's minds. I have to watch out more for people like you.
Sorry to have hurt your feelings. The answer, to me, was obviously a pun -- and I even added the little [;)] to be sure you knew.
That's part of the problem with e-mails and other communications of this type, it's hard to distinguish subtleties. If I didn't feel comfortable with the group I wouldn't have interjected the humor.
