That is strange that the Off Road package is available in Hong Kong now but still not available in the U.S. I wonder if this means that the off road package will also be available at launch in Australia in september/october, this is the only thing that is holding me back about puttng my name down as i go off road 3-5 times a year in my current W163 and need a true 4wd with a transfer case.

Funny that you already have it available in HK (with RHD) when the Brits are still stuck with the W163.
The rear spare wheel carrier is rubbish - you lose rear vision, it's a pain to load/unload luggage, and you get the rear bumper messed up with additional rear lights (probably the original ones are "dummies" on the models equipped with the external spare wheel). Also there's a significant risk of vandalism when you carry your spare around in public like that - far too easy to deflate, even using the valve. And if it's like the one on the W164, you can't take the ML through a car wash either. Just my ten cents.....

PS: "Bri" might be interested in looking at the MB HK site - or even in getting a W164 Sport from HK.

Actually, I am not interest on the rear spare wheel carrier. I just like the rims. It seems it is not avalible in HK.
Right now if I order the new M, it will be manufacture in Sep & willbe delivery around Nov. So it is beeter to order the real 2006 manufactured.
Any people know the M with normal suspension or with Airmatic will have a lower ground level. I want a lower one since it is more easy for children to get on the car. Can the Airmatic lower doen the car?
I believe the standard setting for the air suspension is about an inch lower than that for the steel springs, and in the "sport" setting it is about a half an inch lower still. There is no "access" or "load" setting as in a Land Rover.
How come you guys get to order the off-road package?
In Germany and in Greece ORP was orderable from the beginning (Code 0900), my ml 350 will be built end of july and delivered beginning of September with ORP in Athens, Greece. The fact that you can't yet order it in US is funny, might be for marketing reasons, who knows. The crime in this story is that real manual shifting is only available with ORP (see MB interactive owner's manual at http://www4.mercedes-benz.com/d/cars/m-class/betriebsanleitung/flash6.html ) So US customers have only an extended overdrive function with their steering wheel buttons, restricting the gear 7G- Tronic will automatically shift in
thanks for this picture:
as it shows (apart from the RHD) quite exactly the interior of my future ML.
I like it [:D].
Drak,
like the Germans, you're lucky to have been able to order the ORP from the beginning. The latest French pre-release brochure I have also states the ORP as late delivery (production September, delivery November - 2005, that is).
I'm now ordering an ML350 in HK as well - for those of you in HK (elac, if ur still around), I would greatly appreciate your feedback on the AIRMATIC use in HK, is it really that useful for the driving conditions here?
