how to replace the ac filter?

just lately when i turn my AC/heater on it release a weird smell, and its not very pleasant? do you guys know wat might be the problem. is it the ac filter or something..[xx(]

On my 2000 ML430, I remove two screws from the panel under the glove box and pull down on ...

On my 2000 ML430, I remove two screws from the panel under the glove box and pull down on the locking tab toward the rear middle of this panel. Carefully pull down on this panel making sure you see how it fits so you can put it back on the same way. Looking up under where the panel was you'll see a black plastic locking tab, pull this down and remove the black plastic cover which holds the filter in place. Pull out the old dirty filter making sure you remember to put the new one in the same way. The regular filter costs around $20.00, depending where you buy it. The charcol filter is big $$$$$ if you can find it. I believe the link I gave you in my above post has some picutes of the procedure in it. Anyway you can do it, just take your time and you'll figure it out. Good luck Boy-6! [:D]
