Get Ronal R-28 (OEM) 17x8.5 wheels, say, $200 ea. Its OEM, so you know the weight rating is right.
UncaL,
The only thing is I would rather have a 5 spoke or 6 spoke wheel. Its a numbers thing.[:)] Seriously, I like the more open style wheel. I only wish that Ronal made them that way.
Thanks,
Andy

Andy, I'm sure WHATEVER you decide will look better than THIS dirty wheel someone posted on the INTERNET, like they were proud of it or sum'thin!
[;)]
Hmmm... that looks vaguely familar. [:)]
I talked to Vince at Discount Tire Direct and he says that the wheels that I showed in the first post are rated for the ML and exceed the weight requirements as well as have the correct offset.

I've heard of Fittipaldi wheels before but never heard from anyone who's had them. I've seen them on a Civic and a Camaro, not those exact ones though. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them for my Accord, but I'd have to get more info on them if I was considering it for the ML.

I asked Vince some additional question. The wheels are pressure casted not forged. I'm told that pressure casting is better and stronger than just casting a wheel.

I think that pressure casting is a process that is used to make SSR wheels, which are known to be pretty good. If everything is in line and you're positive the salesman isn't lying, then go for it. Also...those Ronal R-28's didn't look like ML430 wheels to me. If you look closely you can see in the wheels that they have a hollowed out central area and the spokes bulge out from there. The ML430 wheels have a flat face but the spokes go in towards the tire at the top. There was one wheel on the Ronal website that looked incredibly OEM to me, it was the one on the white ML, it looked like the ML350 wheels.

The one comforting thing that the salesman said is buy them and try them and if you don't like them, send them back.[:)]
Sounded pretty reasonable to me.
Of course now that I am getting this close to making a decision, I am giving serious thought to going to 18" wheels. There seems to be a much greater selection of tires.

The tires are also very expensive :) I never liked going too big in terms of wheels, I always liked to see a decent amount of tire especially on SUV's. Kudos for not going with "dubs" :) Oh yeah...if you got 17's, you could reuse your old tires?
