Fog Light Indicator Light?

When you turn the foglights on, it would be nice to have an indicator light come on to inform you that they are on. I know there is a dash light that could be used, but I think that indicator light (a bright white light beneath the speedometer) would get annoying after a while.

In my old E, the switch for the fogs contained a light - green for front fogs, and amber (or red?) for the rear fog. It was a great way to know the foglights were on.

Is there a way to have the foglight switch in the ML indicate (with a green indicator light in the switch itself) that the front foglights are on?

TIA!

foglight indicator

in the 2002, there is a green light in the dash when the front F'lights are on. This green light on the dash is not all that bright and I don't find it annoying. For the rear ones, the light (amber dot) is on the switch itself. I am sure you can modify the switch so that it has an indicator when the front fogs are on but am not sure if it's worth the trouble.

The other option would be to replace the white LED in the dash so that it is not annoying.

Only the '99+ MLs have the ability to have the indicator switched on.

I don't understand why people find the green indicator bright at all. I've had it for years now and I often drive around with the foglamps turned on at night and have never found it a problem. Must be the same people who find the blue MCS screen to be too bright!

Ok, so I can't activate the dash light because its a 98, right?

What about the light in the switch? Can it be modded (or replaced with a switch from another model) so that the indicator light on the switch (circled below) illuminates when the front fogs are on?

The microswitch is all integrated and there is no way easy way to modify it internally. Did you notice that the US foglamp switch is different than what we have here in Canada (and in Europe)?

No! The pic (which is your's!) had some glare on it. How is it different?

Can someone post a pic of their rear fog lights?

I'm interested in seeing what they look like. I only have front fog lights.

Thanks [8D]

I don't have a picture

but, when on, the left tail light (or is it both?) glows brighter.

I suspect you do have it! Check your manual.
