Replacement Rear View Mirror?

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement rear view mirror? Junk yard perhaps? My mirror has developed this frost behind the glass. It is the strangest thing. (pictures later)

I tried the dealer a few days ago. They want $504 for a new one. I am not spending that much on a mirror when I can use the money for some other mods like new wheels.

Please help.

I'm assuming that your mirror is electrochromatic auto-dimming? Please e-mail me your VIN and I should be able to help you out [:)]

Re: Glenn...

I think you're right. The frost is internal and there is no way for me to fix it from the surface. I read how the mirrors work. It is incredible! There's electronics behind the mirror. I did not know that! Check it out: http://www.gentex.com/automotive_products2.html

Do you know if these mirrors will work on my ML? I like some of the features, but am not sure if it will work. What do you think?

It would have been a warranty issue, but I am over the 50k miles now (actual 68,800). I did ask the Service Advisor the same question. He wouldn't replace it without having me purchase the darn thing.

While $500 seems a lot...

I think that a mirror able to reflect traffic conditions is a very necessary device, much, much more important for your safety and that of others than new wheels on your ML320.

I realize during my daily drive that some auto manufacturers could cut costs even more by making mirrors and turn indicators optional as an incredible number of drivers do not know how to use them, or maybe never were explained that such features were on the vehicle they purchased.

For everyone's sake, don't be one of them!

Think deductible and insurance rate increase before you decide not to shop for a mirror. Please?

Of course, if a defect caused your problem, you should fight for coverage under warranty.

I'm not sure if it will fit. Remember that the '00+ mirrors have a Rainsensor box that fits on the windshield. Not only that but the colour is a light grey, whereas your mirror is currently black..

I'm finding a growing number of drivers ANYWHERE who are just too lazy to use their turn signals. One particular driver pulled into my lane with no signals, really pissed me off but I maintained my composure and kept cool. I drove next to him and at the light, rolled down my window and exclaimed how nice and clean his ride was (It was a G35 coupe):

Me: "Yo! Nice ride man! I like the color and I see you've got the Brembo brakes too..."
Him: "Yeah, thanks!"
Me: "...Too bad the turn signals dont work. Are they optional on the G35?"
Him: <gives me this "WTF?!" look>
Light turns green, I rolled up my window and went on my merry way...
