BAS/ESP and ETS Lights On/Off: Is it safe to drive?
1999 ML320 with 53k+ miles. Lights come on and off after I re-start the car. My appointment (with Stead Motor@Walnut Creak, CA) is next Monday morning. Thanks.
Do the lights stay on?
How long?
Do they come on when you re-start but not start?
Do they come on when you stop without turning the engine off (say a stop sign for example)
If they are constantly on from the time you start the engine and do not turn off, you owner's manual should tell you that it is quite unsafe to drive the car.
If they come on intermittently and for a short period of time, after braking to a stop and taking off, but not at all times, you might have the same problem I've had fixed last week, a stop brake switch gone bad. If your dealer rus a short test, that would be a C1200 error code.
Again, if the lights are on, your owner's manual warns you not to drive, check it out an ask your service advisor.

Forgot to call the Claim Advisor (1SourceWarranty.com) before repair was done. Needed to pay this one myself[xx(]
I've recently experienced this "BAS/ESP" light coming on. Mine remained ON for as long as the engine is running.

My "BAS/ESP" light went off AFTER I restarted the engine and it remained OFF until the following day (the second occurence).

NOPE! Not on mine, the BAS/ESP light went on after starting the engine.

YEP! Sounds exactly my "BAS/ESP" symptoms. Perhaps it is the same C1200 DTC. Any details on what triggers C1200?
My Service A is coming up really soon so I'll put this down on my list of things to be checked at while at service.
Anybody knows how difficult is to change the stop lamp switch on the ML? On the hondas it
Anybody knows how difficult is to change the stop lamp switch on the ML? On the hondas it takes 5 minutes to do it. It is just a bolt sensor with a nut in the upper part of the brake pedal and a connector..
It will really be nice to know if it is that straight forward..
