Clean glass, no water stains

I just thought I share a little bit of information for those that think that a good detailing job includes crystal clear and clean glass.

As you all know water spots are hard to get rid off, I have read and heard all kind of advice, from useless as using vinegar to some dangerous ones as using fine steel wool or acid, those can etch the glass and get inside the body and cause corrosion or scratch the glass.

I found in a flea market a product made in California called Bio Chem., it looks like tooth paste, the guy that sold it to me assured me it would work and proved it to me on his pick up, it worked but it required elbow work, square inch at a time, because of that it languished in my garage for some years.

Finally my ML had such a bad case of water stains or spots on all the windows that detailing the vehicle did not do justice, this past weekend I spent considerable amount of time detailing my vehicles, my white Porsche had water stains on the paint, I used Meguiar’s swirl remover 2.0 which is a light cut to get rid of the stains and after that I did the three step, the results were very pleasing.
On my ML I did the same procedure but also decided to do the glass, especially the rear tinted section was awful, I said to myself what the heck, I spread the Bio Chem. on the clean glass and some on a clean pad on a 5 inch orbital polisher and went at it, the edges and corners I did by finger, I would say it took me less than 5 or 6 minutes by window and a little longer on the windshield and back glass, the result was truly satisfying, although I already washed the glass with soap and water the pad turned black from the grime it removed, the glass became ultra smooth and clear. I bought some Rain X glass wax and I will coat the windows with it to keep the problem from recurring.

That same night I went out to see if I scratched the glass or I had swirl marks which oncoming cars would show it with their head lights, I did not notice any but a faint haze that a good glass cleaner removed after a few passes.

I am telling my experience and my steps but I want to make it clear that I am not responsible from poor technique or any other factors so if you do decide to go ahead try first on a small section in a non critical area or on an older car and see if it suits you.

To show the results you can see the picture, the little back window was cleaned with soap and water and paper towel, on the right is the window polished, you are not seeing through the glass but the reflection on the background. By the way I am not affiliated with Bio Chem. in any shape or form, just sharing my experience.

Press high ress for better view.

NoTouch's chemical glass stripper. I actually use it on the windshield once a month to get rid of all of the grease/oil, bug guts, bird poop that is thrown up onto the windshield. It is amazing how much cleaner the wipers sweep after the cleaning! Basically one squeezes a small bit onto the winshield and you rub it in and spread it around (I use a paper towel). After that, hose it off throughly with a strong spray of water and watch the way that the water sheets off the windshield.
