Thanks gary, but in the same thread you linked to

you need to add another $225 for painting. This brings total up to $~450 give or take. Add shipping and handling to that number. Then, add labor (if its not already included in the $225) for painting and removal of old hood and installation of new hood.

your vehicle. The ML55 uses shocks to lift up the hood whereas the 98-99 just uses the metal stick to hold it up. Just check this with Drew or Chris who may know the answer.
Ken Yee has an FAQ on that here. Click on FAQ, then search for "Can the MY2000 hood gas struts be retrofitted to previous models? (Ken K. Yee 03/27/2000)"

Hope it helps.

Sorry for the late reply.... I don't know where you guys are getting your unpainted hoods I can get them for $650US.. after taxes.. Unless they're not OEM.. $400 is a good deal, don't let it pass by.. I don't have any pictures of the raw scoops but I can tell you that they are made from a company in my city who makes body kits for a living. He offered me them a while back, he uses a mold and can mass produce them but minimum order of 5.
