Battery replacement instructions?

MY 99 ML430 needs a new battery. There is a bracket that goes over the top of the battery and it appears that there is also a tray that the battery is in that can be removed.

Before I yank out my engine getting the stupid thing out, can anyone give me some tips on removing the dang thing?

How do I get it out?

Help!

This is ridiculous. I am determined to not pay labor for this, even though I am taking the car in for a window replacement this week.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

1. Remove the black clip under the metal strap by pressing on the middle front part that sticks up.

2. Press down on the metal strap and at the same time, unhook the strap closes to the fender.

6. Press down (red arrow) on the outer housing to unhook it from the bottom, then raise it up (green arrow) and out of the way.
7. Loose the bolts on the terminal wires and disconnect.
8.Carefully lift the battery out of the engine compartment.

I guess you can take it from there ... I hope that helps ... I had to replace my battery some time back and MB wanted me to schedule an appointment with their service department and leave it overnight. They were also going to charge me $75 for the replacement!

Nice post gh. Here is an alternative to the MB battery......

I did not want to pay what the dealer wanted so I found another one for $100 installed. The battery is the same as the MB one. These things are huge. What you need is group 49. Here is a chart from Exide. Check out the specs.

I printed and followed the instructions from gh. It took me about 15 minutes. I have a winch power lead and solenoid that also had to be moved aside.

That was after 30 minutes of frustration before.

Thanks again!

FYI I paid $115 for the OEM battery from a dealer.

I looked all over for another option and could not find one.

It's not the best of instructions, but it will do. I just thought I would try out my digital camera, Canon S230. What better way to try it out than to post instructions especially on something that I had experience doing not too long ago ... You're welcome GreenM3.
