And the dealer wanted $500 for just 15 minutes with the right tools. What a steal. I am openning my MB shop!!
Not ready to navigate yet because I need the antenna that Drew is getting for me as well as the CD#1. Thanks Drew!![]

I waited a few months, LOL...it is most definitely worth it! I have got to say that the MCS Alpine based system is much more user-friendly than the COMAND system.

In some ways, the MCS Nav is more user friendly than the COMAND... but it still suffers MANY MANY MANY wonky interface issues. For instance, MCS has the joystick so the cursor can be moved at any time a map is active. In other ways, COMAND is more user friendly... for most data input, the rotary control with pushbutton is superior to the joystick with pushbutton, and you don't need to go back to the radio screen to choose a new station.
MCS seems to have bettern map data and more accurate positioning and inertial navigation. COMAND has more features (aux input, video input, integration with car diagnostics, etc.). Oh yeah, MCS has DVD option so there is only one map DVD available (and only that one... for only some parts of North America). COMAND has map data available for nearly every spot on earth where roads exist.
To me, both of them really suck when it comes to the user interface. I would make roughly the same number of changes to the interfaces of each. I would add a joystick to the COMAND, and add prev/next buttons to the MCS for use with tape/radio/CD etc.
why the nav splash screen looks so much different than mine. mine has a mostly reddish backround and the ml even looks different encorporating the newer fascia and such. does yours have the option for the light/dark map screen? and does it also have the disclamer screen?

I am using a CD version 2000, that might be the difference. I am getting the newer version, thanks to Drew by next week, I hope, so the screen will be different, and the disclaimer should be similar to yours. I will let you know as soon as I get it.
