Finally managed to get the GPS nav system installed...

It only took 2 years to get all of the components put together, LOL. Special thanks and my gratitude to the following people: Craig (cweems), Jeff (jdbower), Jimmy (Benza), Wolfgang, and of course our very own Frank of BenzWorld [:)].

A few interesting notes...firstly, the physical components of the system can literally be installed in 30 minutes. Since I have an earlier '00 MCS, no MCS version coding was necessary at all. The system did require about 30 minutes to synchronise, and the vehicle has to be stationary in order for this to work. If you keep driving, it will not "lock" on.

Secondly, I copied the original map CD onto a high grade Kodak-branded Silver CD. The CD worked absolutely perfectly before I had the antenna and splitter + cable installed (and also for audio CDs). However upon linking up all of the components, for some odd reason, the disc would crash the MCS software when trying to route to a destination. After about an hour of playing around and even unplugging the MCS, I decided to re-burn the original CD onto a Maxell Gold CD. I have had absolutely zero issues since!

Now, a few pictures as always!

the DVD system was out of reach as far as the price range goes. I do have to fund other modifications as well, LOL, especially in the coming months. Oops, I've said too much already [;)]

Did you burn a copyrighted CD?

And you are telling in public you did it twice???[:0]
I cannot believe what I am reading.!![:0]
Enough, good job. I am getting my system Friday or Monday, depending how US "Snail" Postal service feels.
I will be getting the CD version as well with CD #7. This CD is not useful for me, but it's a good thing for trading CD's. So, if anybody needs a CD # 7 (Attention NY, NJ, and area) LKM, I will see if "Drew" can burn the CD for you.LOL!!![:0][:o)]
And if anybody has CD# 1 for CA/NV I need a copy.
Thanks everybody, and if Drew does not send me his DIY project for "our" DIY CD compilation, I will do it as soon as I get the unit.
This weekend I am changing gauge cluster to something very nice, you will see pics.[}:)][;)][B)]

VSS?

Hi Drew,
Did you have to connect VSS at all?
Being a 2000 ML, was the VSS wiring already there?

Thanks

I won't have one...

But I will post the set of instructions (MB instructions) that I have for the '00 and '01 models, as BenzWorld publications. [:)]

I need to have a couple more things done before I can arrange for some sort of local meet, LOL. Actually I thought that it might be a good idea for us to pair up with the BMW club drives, if possible. It's always more fun to have some sort of activity rather than standing around [:)]
