I have a 99 ML430 with no Bose or MCS. I can obtain an MCS from an ML built on 8/00 with MCS Part number 163 820 04 86. The CD Changer with the MCS Unit is Ref# CX-CP2810S (non-Fiber optic) while the one currently on my vehicle is CX-CP2610ZF. Therefore, there is a difference already with the non-fiber optic CD Changers. I've been following your posts on your retrofit and was wondering what would you recommend?
1.) Wait until I get get an earlier version of the MCS
2.) Do a Command 2.0 Install
3.) Get a Harmon Kardon TrafficPro
4.) Do nothing
Based on the research so far it seems like the Harmon/Kardon would be the best choice since it matches the OEM appearance, upgrades the stereo, and will cost around $1,600 with CD Changer and navigation.

My MCS build date 12/99 will be up for sell some time in Mar if you want to wait.
1. Condition of the unit?
2. Includes Navigation?
3. Price
4. MCS Part #
5. CD Changer Reference Number
I noticed that you are in Northern CA. I'm in San Jose and you?
Hi Alex, here the answer:
1. Like new.
2. No.
3. Not set yet but won't be below $500.00
4. I will let you know later.
5. No changer on my so I don't know, you can try with your changer to see it work or not.
Between now and March would you be willing to allow me to try my CD Changer on your ML. I assume the cable is already routed to the back of the vehicle. If that works I will defintely wait and buy it from you.

Why don't you take that MCS and add a fibre optic changer and cable harness? It seems all the MCS have fibre optic connectors, for addition of a phone system. Because the fibre optic connectors are there, the CD changer can be plugged in, and it seems to work in the three cases I tried.
Since you're in San Jose, I would be more than happy to let you try and plug in a fibre optic changer to your MCS to verify operation before you go down this path.
If that works, you can find the changers relatively inexpensively if you keep your eyes open!
This would seem to make the compatibility game a lot easier, too.

Let me know.
Alex, sorry for the delay I'm too busy in the weekend.
