Okay so most of you know that i'm getting my Black ML350 Inspiration Edition delivered next week so that gives me enough time to tell the dealer about additional options before taking actual delivery.
I've pretty much narrowed down my only other accessory I feel may (or may not) be worth it and that is the: Side Step bars.
Whats your vote on it:
1. Side step bars: Yes or No
2. Black or Stainless Steel (I have a Black ML)
Would appreciate anyone with a Black ML and side-step bars post pics. TIA all!

I love how they look, but I never use them, the truck is low enough. All they do is get my pants dirty. On the otherhand they work as ding protectors from most cars. Their doors will hit the step bar befor your door []
It helps aid the short, old people, and it's a great way to wash the top of your car too. It also looks good and it acts like a ding protector from doors! As for color, I would say black.... go for the all black look! But that's my opinion
Yes, do the sidestep. It protects the door and is invaluable when you wash the truck.
I'm in the market also and I've decided OEM is best. Man, you have black, go with the black bars. They are less expensive and they have same warranty - MB calls them "stainless steel black" - I wonder what that means. Anyway, unless you plan to have chrome ascents on the truck (don't care much for chrome), stay with the black bar. Another reason i don't like the chrome - the black steps look very tachy (in pics), like an after-thought. With the black, it doesn't show so much. You can have it installed yourself, you know???

I do not like them and never got them for my 98 or my 02. Reasons; when getting into the ML they are too low to actually help enter, easier to step right in and in addition when stepping over them I hit my ankle on them. Also when wet they become very slippery and its easy to slide off of them. Only saving grace is that they do look good but in my opinion they are totally impractical.
Hey guys! I saw a couple of auctions for side steps and bull bars on ebay, you may want to check them out, they have a really good price. Good luck.
I like chrome on these.

The trick is to step on them before entering the cabin. A lot of people step over them and then find that it's in the way. As for getting down, same deal. Step on them then step off. No problems. The sidesteps are extremely helpful for shorter people...even though I'm of average height at 5'9", I still find them useful. I can't say that I've ever hit my ankle on the step either.

They are okay when wet. The steps are angled downwards slightly so that water doesn't accumulate on them. The only thing you have to be careful of is when the temperatures are at freezing levels and it is wet.
My parents are old folks and they love using the steps, before I had them they complaint all the time, and as for getting out, they never had a problem slipping. And they are very useful to reach the top of the truck.
Drew, you have e-mail, please check. I need your help.
