i hear ya...

you also mentioned that you were not exactly thrilled to be a thule billboard... understandable. take a look at the logo/mark, im almost positive that it's an adhesive based sticker of some sort. if so, just peel it off.

Someone else suggested the same so..

I will try or just deal with the free advertising. Maybe I will replace the logo with my business logo..

Hmmmmm, food for thought.

Thule Noise Reduction

Quote:
I will probably just get the fairing and make my life simple. I am not stirring trouble, just making a point that I expected more from MB.
[:D]
I also purchased a Thule 754 for the ML and was surprised at the noise level above 60 mph. I have used Thule racks on my other cars, always with ski racks attached, and noise has never been an issue. Initially I thought the noise was caused by the slots on the bars. I taped the slots on the bars and every posible crevace on the feet without much effect. I also tried to address how the feet attach to the ML's bars and did not have any success either. I made a fairing from a cardboard box to test its effect and the wind noise was virtually eliminated. That is the solution.

I spoke with Thule and they adimited that the bars make a lot of noise on some vehicles, and that the only thing that reduces wind noise is a fairing. The representative said that they were going to come out with a new fairing for SUVs with roof bars like the ML--they may be available now. Their existing fairing is designed to rest on top of the windshield.

Thank you for asking your question, which is as valid as most of the discussions on this board. Please let us know which fairing you purchase and how well it works. I also do not like a faring, even less with advertising on it (Bling, Bling!). I will first see how much noise the bars generate with the ski racks attached on the way to the slopes (Kirkwood) before I add the fairing.
