Trip Computer
I seem to recall a number of observations concerning trip computers. Mine is a 2002 ML500. This is the third replacement I have had replaced and just today it defaulted to German for no apparent reason. Anyone (non-German) having this problem? Is there a fix?

Trip Computer
My ML500 had the computer replaced early on for the same fault as yours. That was 11 mos ago and it did do it again but only once about 6 mos ago and never since them.

Funny, I had the same thing happened to me for the first time yesterday...
I reset it back to "USA". It was problem-free for 10 months and 7K miles. Will monitor to see if it occurs again. [V]

3 or 4 times
it seems to happen on especially hot days (when the truck has been parked in the sun for a while).
mine sometimes thinks it is german, but usually just switches to a date in may or june of 1998.

Probably also kills fuel data
Sometimes when I get it back from service I found that they've disconnected to battery. The fuel information (mile to empty, long term mileage data, etc.) also are deleted. It all works fine after a few tens of miles of data capture.

Mine did it once at the car wash...
Mine did it once at the car wash... back to GER, the first week I had the car. Has never done it since (9 months now). (I've never been back to that car wash!) Thought maybe there was EMF interference from the wash computer, or it's sodium vapor lights -- have never confirmed my theory by going back.
