4ETS & ESP/BAS lights came ON - Anyone experienced this before?
As I was driving my M class today...I suddenly notticed that two of the left most indicator lights on my dashboard, namely 4ETS & ESP/BAS came ON.

I tried to toggle the ESP mode ON and OFF but nothing happened.

The 4ETS & ESP/BAS lights just stayed a steady ON. I pulled over - put the transmission in park and flipped it back into drive...but that didn't help.

Finally as a last resort, I turned off the ignition..waited for a minute and then turned it on again. The 4ETS and ESP/BAS lights didn't come on after that.

Anyone experienced this before? What should I infer? Should I get my truck checked at the dealership, or was it just a accidental malfuntion of the car electronics?
I think it's the switch that surpresses the brake lights from illuminating as the computer applies the brakes during 4ETS activation. The technician will be able to tell by pulling off the code from the onboard computer. Since the idiot lamp went off, you should be ok (intermitent problem). It's usually only if it stays on that you should be a bit hastier in getting it checked out.
I think I might have activated the 4ETS..just prior to the lights coming on..
Now that you hinted at the brake switch, I remember, just prior to the lights coming on, I had made a maneuver (drove it off road momentarily to make a full U turn on a narrow single lane road) that might have caused the 4ETS to activate.

I also remember that all through the U turn, I used the brake frequently to keep the truck under control off road.

I think, the combination of my pumping on the brakes and the 4ETS working on the brakes simultaneously caused this malfunction to happen.

I am going to the dealership anyways in a day or two for some warranty repairs..so will let the mechnic know of this occurance..
I took it into the shop several times. First time i got new brakes/pads since they were old. This helped for a bit. Then it came back on, so i took it in again, they said they fixed it but they didnt (Dont know what they did) finally the car started locking up while i was driving, i took it back and told them to keep it until it worked.

They said the cars computer system or something was faulty, and the car thought that 1 wheel was loosing power, so it would put on the lights.

To finish this, they replaced the control module (or something lol i dont know the exact terms, and it all works) Everything is smooth again for several months now.

If you need the EXACT info i can go to the dealership and ask exactly what happened.
I just got my truck back yesterday from the dealership. It went in because the front brake squeal was making me feel homicidal and those exact same lights were coming on intermittently. They replaced the pads and told me the brake switch was causing the lights to come on, so they replaced it too.
They replaced the steering column (can't get to just the sensor- gotta do the whole thing). After warranty would have been $1,100 Cdn. This had been prompted by the BAS/ESP light staying on.
