What's with the This site's exceeded its resources message...

I frequently get late in the evening? It's there a limit to the number of posts per day?

No, not a limit...

Frank told us that it's just that the site and boards are so popular that the server is occasionally getting overloaded. The new servers and software should be up and running soon.

Re: No, not a limit...

It's very interesting however that the only time I get this message is late, 11PM ish. Once I get it I can't get in even if restart. BUT after midnight I can get back in no problem, I think there is some limit, like the message says, the site's exceeded its limit. I seriously doubt the site's that busy 2:30 AM Eastern, but what do I know??!!!

Bill, no, it's not a message limit...

The limit that is exceeded is the server's processing limit.

Apparently what happens is that the site is heavily utilised that the server gets overloaded and automatically shuts down to cool off. Frank then has to get it restarted. Therefore once you get that message, it is dependent on him to restart it or you will keep getting the same message.

2:30am Eastern is only 11:30pm Pacific, LOL! Don't forget that in this forum alone, there are owners posting from Russia, Kuwait, Indonesia, etc!

Re: Bill, no, it's not a message limit...

This site doesn't get that many posts though, only 50 some in the past 24 hours. That doesn't seem like an overload to me. I do understand the time differences, that was my point, when I get the nightly, yes it's been every night for the last week, message, it's 2:30 Eastern I really doubt many people are attempting to post. It happened last night when I was composing a post, I hit reply, typed my message, hit post, got the sight limit exceeded.

Bill...

Heh, I'm just telling you what Frank has said in the past. He should know since it's his site!

Actually the last few days have been atypical as to message volume (because of the July 4th holiday). It's not 60 new messages on the site, but 60 new messages in this M-class topic alone. It isn't uncommon to see over 100+ new messages; the highest I've seen is 170, about a week ago.

The SLK guys are very active as well, more so than the M-class forum!

Re: Bill...

Yes it seems you're right, as usual. It's just been frustrating the last week when I've tried to get in here and gotten the message, especially mid-post! Frank does provide a great forum for everyone!

Hopefully...

This should all be resolved in the next two weeks, as the new (far more powerful) servers come online. There should be no more resource exceeded messages since the new servers are far faster.
